Where does the fused estimate lie between prediction and measurement?

You have a Gaussian prediction of the state and a Gaussian measurement of the same quantity, each with its own uncertainty. Qualitatively, where does the Kalman-fused (posterior) estimate lie relative to the two, and how does its uncertainty compare to each input?
